Philosophy Statement

My genuine love for people is what motivated me to become a professional Social Worker. I enjoy working to improve the lives of others. Mahatma Gandhi once said, “ You must be the change that you want to see in the world.”  I believe that strong families and communities can  eliminate many of the social ills that exist in our world. Growing up in Detroit  crime, violence, and poverty were in abundance; opportunities and hope were scarce. I began to seek out opportunities to make a difference in my community.

In 2007 I joined AmeriCorps/City Year and completed 1,700 hours of direct community service. Through volunteering I discovered that helping people is my life's mission. During my volunteer experiences I became deeply inspired to continue working towards improving the lives of vulnerable populations. In 2011, I returned to  College and began working towards my dream of becoming a professional helper. The field of Social Work incorporates social justice, service, and human dignity; I believe that these core values are the foundation for making our world a better place.

On May 09, 2015, I will have completed my Bachelor Degree in Social Work. I plan to use my knowledge and experience to help others overcome barriers that prevent them from achieving their dreams.I am a aspiring Social Entrepreneur! I plan to create and implement programs  for foster care youth, grand parents who are raising grandchildren, and for the empowerment of women. My personal and academic experiences has fully equipped me be the change agent. Dr. Martin Luther King said, "Everybody can be great, because everybody can serve. You only need a heart full of grace, a soul generated by love." I Challenge  everyone to incorporate his words of wisdom into their life.
